Chief Advisor thanks Australia for resuming visa operations in Dhaka

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government, thanked the country for resuming Australia’s visa operations in Dhaka. He also called on Australia to increase humanitarian assistance for the one million Rohingya refugees who have taken refuge in Bangladesh.

On Tuesday (June 17), Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the newly appointed Australian High Commissioner, paid a courtesy call on Dr. Muhammad Yunus in Jamuna. During the meeting, the ongoing reform activities of the interim government, election preparations, bilateral trade expansion and the Rohingya crisis were discussed.

Professor Muhammad Yunus said that the ‘July Charter’ will be announced on the upcoming anniversary of the July uprising. Those who are going to vote for the first time will have the opportunity to vote in a free and festive atmosphere.

At that time, the Australian High Commissioner said that Australia will provide 2 million Australian dollars in assistance through UNDP to increase the capacity of the Election Commission of Bangladesh. His country will stand by Bangladesh to make the hopes of Rohingya repatriation a reality.
