An Indian Army soldier has died in a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident took place near the international border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday (May 18).

The news agency NDTV reported this information on Monday, citing officials.

The report said that the soldier died after being shot from his own service rifle inside a post on the Jammu-Kashmir border. The 28-year-old, a resident of Telangana, was on sentry duty at the border post in Saroj. He died on the spot after being shot from his service rifle.

According to the information provided by the army, the incident took place around 4:30 pm on Sunday.

Initial investigations suggest that he committed suicide. However, the motive behind his action was not immediately known. The police have already started investigating the incident.
